How treatment works
Genio is the world’s first and unique battery-free, leadless and single incision neurostimulator that was designed and developed with the user in mind. Genio keeps your airway open during the night, efficiently optimizing your night’s rest and revitalizing your daily life.
Being a single incision surgical second-line alternative to CPAP, the Genio system consists of 3 essential parts: an implanted neurostimulator and an external Activation Chip connected to a Disposable Patch. The combination of these parts is what makes the Genio system so comfortable and efficient. After going to the doctor first, you will be referred to a designated clinic for your Genio therapy.
Single incision surgery
A small, battery-free and leadless neurostimulator is implanted under the chin. The stimulator’s electrodes are placed bilaterally, in contact with both branches of the hypoglossal nerve. The surgical procedure is very short and single incision. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and includes making a small incision under your chin.
After the healing period, you will receive customized and personal assistance to show you how your new Genio solution works. During these personal sessions, you will need at least two sleep studies to optimize and adjust the parameters of your Genio system. Your doctor may need to schedule additional sleep studies to monitor and optimize your Genio therapy settings.
Your journey to restful nights
To get started with Genio and enjoy your restful nights you need to proceed through a few steps
You are snoring during the night; your bedpartner is reporting breathing interruptions and you suffer from daytime sleepiness?
Your General Practitioner will refer you to a Sleep Physician who will diagnose that you have sleep apnea that requires treatment by conducting a polygraphy (PG) or polysomnography (PSG).
As a first-line treatment you may get recommended Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy. If you cannot tolerate, fail or refuse Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy, you may become eligible to Genio.
4. Genio Center of Excellence
You will be referred to a Genio Center of Excellence. Here is a non-exhaustive list of Centers of Excellence.
The implantation procedure of the Genio device is performed by a trained and certified surgeon. The procedure requires only one incision under your chin, takes about one hour to complete and is done under general anesthesia.
After the healing period, the Genio system will be activated during a sleep study in the sleep center.
After the implant, you will have to do a follow-up visit at your sleep doctor and additional sleep studies might be needed to monitor and optimize your Genio therapy settings.
8. Enjoy restful nights
Yearly follow-up sessions with your doctor will be necessary to monitor the sleep therapy.
